Think Outside the Classroom Box

Before the walls and ceiling start closing in on your kids, send them to the Zoo for a change of scenery. If you have kids in grades 6–12, we have activities and learning adventures designed especially for them. Big kids can dig a little deeper into the wonders of animals and nature. No experience required, just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and a desire to have tons of fun!

Guests with special needs are welcome. Please contact the education department for more information.

Summer Zookeeper Apprentice Program

The Zookeeper Apprentice Program (ZAP) is an exciting opportunity for the young people of our community. ZAP will allow teens to work in all areas of the Zoo as part of a progressive learning experience. All new teens, 14 years and older will start at a freshman level. The program is competitive and students must complete course requirements to move to the next level. By the end of this four year program, students will have gained immeasurable knowledge about the inner-workings of a zoo and made life-long friendships.
