Volunteer at the Zoo

A volunteer assignment at the Zoo offers flexible hours — many Zoo departments work seven days a week. Most of our volunteer positions are available to individuals who are 18 years or older.

To request a volunteer information packet, please e-mail the Volunteer Coordinator with your area of interest, full name, address, city, state and ZIP code so we can send the information to you without delay.

For those individuals who are under 18 years old, opportunities are available. These opportunities include volunteering for Special Events or particpating in Summer Teen Learning Adventures. For Special Event information e-mail the Volunteer Coordinator. For Teen Summer Learning Adventure information e-mail the Education Specialist.

2016 Volunteer of the Year

Sedgwick County Zoo would like to recognize Cindy Kuykendall with the 2016 Volunteer of the Year award.

Cindy began volunteering for the Sedgwick County Zoo in 1994. She has given of her time in North America, the Education Department and special events.

In 2016, Cindy volunteered 275 hours and has well over 5,100 hours in her time here at the Zoo.

Cindy’s bright personality, dedication and compassion made her an excellent candidate for Volunteer of the Year. Cindy has faithfully come in on her weekends despite rain or snow, humidity and heat, bitter cold, and even when she is exhausted from her regular work schedule. She tackles each job she is given with enthusiasm and no complaints.

In 2016, the Sedgwick County Zoo totaled 850 volunteers who donated 32,790 hours. Volunteers help the Zoo by giving their time which in turn saves the Zoo money. The cumulative hours donated by the Sedgwick County Zoo volunteers in 2016 were equal to 16 fulltime employees. Thanks to all of you for what you do to help make the Zoo the No. 1 outdoor family tourist attraction in Kansas.
